1. Southlands Tsawwassen Farmers’ Market
The Southlands Farmers’ Market is the newest addition to the Delta farmers’ market line-up. Every Saturday from mid-June through to mid-December, you’ll find music, food trucks and an array of fresh local produce, locally made food, baking, jams, blooms, and brews waiting for you in the Market Square. The market runs from 10am to 2pm, and in November and December it moves into the cozy Southlands Red Barn to finish off the season. Check the market website for vendors, and opening and closing dates.
2. Make a Day of It
The Southlands is a growing community that blends urban comfort, acres of farmland, and easy access to outdoor recreation. Extend your market day with a visit to the demonstration gardens at the Earthwise Society and travel the bike and walking trails that run through the area to Centennial Beach, and along Boundary Bay. You can even rent an electric bike at Pedego Electric Bikes – look for their local brewery tours! Watch for the upcoming Four Winds restaurant and microbrewery planned for the area, or cycle up to the Rose and Crown Pub for a cold one, it’s a local favourite!
3. Ladner Village Market
The Ladner Village Market runs from 10am to 4pm on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of June, July, and August, and on the 2nd Sunday of September. (Check their website for dates). With a “make it, bake it, or grow it” philosophy, the market has attracted local farmers, food makers, artisans, artists, and plant growers from around BC.
It’s one of Western Canada’s largest open-air markets – you can sample food, buy fresh produce, meat, cheese, bread, and handcrafted wares from more than 160 vendors each market day. Grab a snack and take in one of the live musical performances on the street, or people-watch from the comfort of a patio table at Taverna Gorgona, Il Posto, or one of the other village restaurants. All of the stores in the village are open on market days if you want to explore further.
Both the market and the City of Delta ask you not to bring your four-legged friends to the market. Between the crowds and the leashes that can get tangled in legs, it’s not an ideal environment for dogs. The exception to this, of course, is certified service dogs.
