Get peddling on this itinerary, from Tsawwassen down the Boundary Bay Dyke Trail. How far you go, is up to you!
While mountain biking is a top sport throughout BC, here in Delta, we're privy to vast trail systems that allow long trips on flat ground - an anomaly here in the Lower Mainland and a trait that allows for cyclists of all levels to enjoy a day riding in our beautiful surroundings.

Bike the Dyke

Looking for one of Metro Vancouver’s most scenic bike rides? This route has a little bit of everything – farm markets, artisan coffee, ocean views, birdlife, and plenty of delicious places to refuel along the way.

Whether you’re riding for an hour or making a full day of it, the Boundary Bay Dyke and Southlands area offers one of the easiest and most rewarding cycling experiences in Delta.

Every great ride starts with breakfast.

If you’re beginning in central Tsawwassen, grab brunch at Yolks, where hearty breakfasts and exceptional coffee have made it a new local favourite. If it’s only coffee pre-ride, you’re in luck with Wood N Frog is right across the street for an easy, quick cup of Joe to go.

Already closer to Beach Grove? The Beach Grove Café remains a favourite stop for cyclists, offering coffee, breakfast, and a boutique filled with home décor, gifts, and local finds.

2. Ride the Boundary Bay Dyke

From Tsawwassen, make your way toward Beach Grove Road and connect with the Boundary Bay Dyke Trail – one of the Lower Mainland’s most beautiful waterfront rides.

The wide gravel pathway hugs the shoreline with almost no elevation gain, making it ideal for families, casual riders, and experienced cyclists alike. Ride as little or as far as you’d like. Head east toward Mud Bay, continue north toward Ladner, or simply pedal until you find the perfect bench to soak in the view before turning back.

This stretch is part of the Pacific Flyway, so don’t be surprised if bald eagles, great blue herons, hawks, or even snowy owls make an appearance during migration seasons.

Why you’ll love it

  • Over 15 km of scenic waterfront riding
  • Mostly flat terrain with a wide gravel surface
  • Incredible birdwatching year-round
  • Perfect for beginners, families, and leisurely weekend rides
  • Easy access to beaches, parks, cafés, and farm destinations

3. Beachside Bites

Every ride deserves a great finish.

For a relaxed meal with unbeatable waterfront views, make your way to Four Winds Beach House in Southlands, or head up to central Tsawwassen, where 56th Street offers plenty of options, from Greek favourites at Alpha to Italian classics at Mario’s and Indian cuisine at Clay Oven
