1. North 40 Park, Ladner

North 40 Park Reserve on 72nd Street just off Ladner Trunk Road offers acres of off-leash freedom, with a 1.8 km looped trail, fields, wooded areas, and lots of eagle watching. You’ll find it on 72nd Street just south of Ladner Trunk Road, near Boundary Bay Airport.

The park covers about 100 acres of flat land, it’s level walking loop takes you through shady and open trails, with a big field at the back where dogs can really run. The paths have a history, too. This was the site of the Vancouver Wireless Station, which housed around 500 people during the Second World War. The buildings are gone, but you can still wander the old roads and foundations, with information panels along the way telling the story of the small community that once lived here.

📍After a loop, head just down the road to Boundary Bay Airport for a warm-up at L’aromas Skycafé. Delta-born L’aromas has taken over the old Skyhawk space, which has fed pilots, local farmers and plane-spotting families since 1988. It’s now a full-service, licensed café and restaurant, open daily from 7 am to 5 pm for breakfast, brunch and lunch, with a cozy renovated room and a patio where you can watch the planes come and go.

🍺 More options? You bet – your four legged best friend will love the heated, covered patio over at Barnside Brewing, our award-winning farm brewery just along Ladner Trunk Road. Set among fields of hops, cranberries and grazing sheep, Barnside pours craft beer and serves good food on a dog-friendly four-season patio.

2. Beach Grove Park, Tsawwassen

Beach Grove Park off-leash dog area, just east of Beach Grove Elementary school in Tsawwassen and the entrance of the northern dyke, offers a short stroll through winding wooded paths with plenty of brush for your dog to explore. If that doesn’t tire Fido out, you can leash up and enter the Boundary Bay Dyke Trail at the foot of 17A and Beach Grove Road for a long oceanfront trek.

Afterwards, relax with a coffee on one of Tsawwassen’s dog-friendly patios at the Beach Grove Café – a 15-minute walk from the park – or pop up 12th to The Wood ‘n’ Frog or in the summer, Mario’s Kitchen and Gracie’s Next Door’s dog friendly patios.

3. Huff Hydro Corridor, North Delta

Huff Hydro Corridor Park Reserve gives you and your BFF a roughly 2 km trail loop that is partially enclosed by fenced back yards. It runs over easy terrain under Hydro wires and on a good day, you can see downhill and out over the bog. At the end of your run, a treat and a visit to the dog wash station at Bosley’s on Scott Road might be just the ticket!
